We use a baby safe powder, mixed with luke
warm water to form a paste. The paste is
spread over the area we want to make an
imprint of, and it sets in approximately 60
seconds. The mold sets into a soft rubber
form, which is then slipped of the hand/foot
without hurting your baby in any way. The
paste allows us to pick up amazingly fine
detail on your baby’s hands/feet.
We prefer to make the imprints within the
first few days after your baby is born. If
you contact us while in hospital, we will
come to you before you are discharged. It is
of course possible to make moulds at home,
but at an additional cost.
A newborn can only move his/her hand until
the mould starts to set, so it is not really
a problem to keep the baby stationery.
However, we prefer to make the moulds after
baby has been fed, when they are calmer, and
even better if the baby is asleep at the
time. For babies between the age of 5 months
up to 3 years, it is advisable to make the
moulds only when they are asleep because
they normally don’t like their hands/feet
being held down while making the moulds.
After we have made the moulds, you complete
a form with your baby’s particulars,
indicating the way you would like it to
appear on the plaque which is placed at the
bottom of the frame, e.g.
BABY’S NAME and SURNAME
DAY and DATE OF BIRTH
WEIGHT, LENGTH, TIME OF BIRTH
AGE / DATE OF PRINT
It takes approximately 20 – 40 minutes to
make moulds of both hands and feet. Then it
takes about 6 weeks to complete the set for
collection by you, i.e. drying and
finishing, mounting and framing it
professionally in a 3D frame
